Professor Gaby Saade!

Goodmorning students!!
My name is Gabriela Saade and I will be the substitute teacher for the day because Professor Little is feeling sick so she won’t be able to come to class. We are going to have a lot of fun because today we are going to talk about… Graphs!! I love these topic!! Fun and Interesting!!
However we need to start by describing what is a graph?  Who can tell me what a graph is? Or what it looks like? (silence) since nobody answered I will explain what a graph is.
A graph is a diagram that shows connections between two or more things by dots, lines, bars and others. Each of the points can represent a value of a given function.  Therefore there are many types of graphs such as bar charts, line graphs and others.

A graph looks like the one below:

So, from what we observe above. Graphs have a y and an x axis, two variables and different points. Also they need a title and in the end you can either connect the line like they have done or just leave the points as they are.
In addition there are different kinds of graphs, the most common are lines or bars. A bar graph looks like the one below.

Aren’t graphs amazing? They are so much fun and easy to use!!

We also need to learn why are graphs so important? You will use graphs in many of your classes. They are used to display information in an easier way. They show us patterns and different things by just looking at them. Graphs are used in every class, from marketing to Economics, therefore they are not only used in math!! Indeed when you start working maybe your boss tells you to draw of graph of the sales of November. Because of this it is important to learn how to draw graphs!!
So let’s draw a line graph. To start off you need to have some points or values. We are going to use a real world example. Who wants to help me in coming up with an example? (silence) well guys, since nobody wants to help me out I came up with a really good example!! So many people don’t have a car therefore we have to use a taxi to go to places. So our two variables will be miles and the other will be amount of dollars charged. The X axis will be the miles driven and the Y axis will be the amount of money charged. The information will look like these:

Miles             Amount Charged ($)
1                                                           5
      2                             10
      3                             15
      4                              20

Now that we have the information we have to plug it into our super graph!! I use a bar graph because I want you to understand that graphs are used to make information more clear.

What a beautiful graph isn’t it? I hope you learned a lot today! Now its time to do the exit slip Professor Little gave me and a group work! When you finish you can leave!! And thank you so much for having me guys!! I hope you liked my class as much as I Do!!

  2. This is a great lesson plan. It really helps to show that you really do understand anything there is to know about graphs!

  3. The graphics with the lesson plan really worked well together. Nice try.
